PREPRESS HELP PAGES

Here are some useful tips and information on how to set up your files for trouble free output. Please contact us if you need any further help. We look forward to working with you on your next publication.

Typefaces & Text Components
1) Are all fonts all Adobe Type 1 PostScript fonts?
-
Make sure that you are using the latest type 1 PostScript fonts - preferably from the Adobe family.

-Try to avoid TrueType fonts - if possible. Our imagesetters are based on the PostScript language not Quick Draw.

-Avoid shareware typefaces (especially unusual or non standard ones). These may not image and can delay your job significantly.

-Do not use Type 3 PostScript fonts - these are generally incompatible with most imagesetters.

-We won't reject your job if you use TrueType and/or shareware fonts, however there are higher incidents of trouble with these types of fonts.

2) Do any graphics have "nested" typefaces?
-
If you have a file that has imported EPS files containing a font that is not present anywhere else in the document, you should include that font. We recommend that you convert them to outlines/graphics from your illustration/draw program.

3) Have all fonts been provided or need to be provided?*
- DOUBLE CHECK - DOUBLE CHECK!!! This is the number one problem with jobs. Make sure you have checked with us to find out whether we have the typefaces for your job. If not, you should send the typefaces to us with your job or create a PostScript print to disk file.
